Shannon brings eight years of experience as owner and president of her own sales & marketing firm, and has served on the CHOICES board of directors since 2006. She has been so inspired by her volunteer involvement in the nonprofit sector that she has decided to give herself to it full-time…and we wasted no time in snapping her up! Please welcome Shannon to CHOICES by contacting her at skavanaugh@choices.org or 1-888-CHOICES (1-888-246-4237), ext.5.

Bank of America Awards Tenth Consecutive Grant to CHOICES |
CHOICES announced today that it has received a $75,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. Using bank employees and community partners as volunteer presenters, the grant will be used to deliver the CHOICES program to more than 27,000 middle school students throughout the US.
“In a world of ever-advancing technology, globalization, and continuous change, the CHOICES message is critical to today’s youth,” said Jeanna Gaines, Assistant Vice President, Bank of America in San Antonio, TX. “It’s a message that helps youth recognize they can determine who and what they will become and that education is their best tool to reach their highest potential.“ Gaines coordinates the delivery of CHOICES to 3,700 teens in San Antonio annually.
MaryLou Wahlberg, a Youth Employment Specialist for Mesa, AZ Public Schools, indicated that CHOICES is making a significant impact with her student population. She added, “Our students are dealing with language barriers as well as social/economic hardships. CHOICES makes a huge difference as they learn the impact their personal choices will have on their futures. They may be embedded in the lifestyle of welfare; yet in several hours' time they learn from professionals other than their teacher that there is a way to change their circumstances.”
This year’s grant award to CHOICES is the most recent in a full decade of continuous support from Bank of America which totals more than $750,000 in contributions and 13,000 volunteer hours from bank employees and their community partners…serving over 200,000 students across the nation. Thank you Bank of America! |
CHOICES MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE MONTH
Washington Presenter Offers Full-Ride Scholarship – To High School!
Russell Investments Presenter Kerry Prichard makes a clever offer to her students when she presents CHOICES in Yelm, Washington. As she tells it, “Just before I give the key ring to the students, I let them know that we adults care enough about them that we are going to give them all a $40,000 full ride four-year scholarship…to high school. Once I tell them this I let them know that this is what it costs to put one of them through high school, and that now is the time to get all that they can from their education. I say to them, ‘Never again in your life will someone else pick up the tab. Never again in your life will you have designated time to consume an education. What are you going to do with this gift? After all, it is your choice!’” What an ingenious device, Kerry…we appreciate you sharing it with us!
